What is the AI Hackathon? ⌄
The UC Berkeley AI Hackathon is a 2-day hackathon where hackers collaborate on innovative technology for a chance to win cash and tech prizes, and attend workshops and panels to learn more about emerging tech.
Who can apply? ⌄
The AI Hackathon is open to undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities, as well as recent grads who graduated Fall 2024 or later. You must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
How many people can be on a single team? ⌄
Up to 4 people can be part of a single team.
Do I have to have a team? ⌄
No. Team matching happens during the event and on Slack beforehand, or you can hack solo.
What experience level is needed? ⌄
All experience levels are welcome. Programming and support will be available for first-time hackers.
Can I start before the hackathon? ⌄
Ideation is allowed, but all implementation must strictly occur during the hacking period.
How much does it cost to attend? ⌄
The event is completely free for participants thanks to sponsors.

How do I apply? ⌄
Apply by April 26 priority or May 17 regular at hive.hackberkeley.org.
Why two timelines? ⌄
Priority applicants have a higher chance of acceptance and are reviewed earlier, allowing more time to plan travel.
Do I get guaranteed admission? ⌄
No, but applying in the priority round improves your chances.
I applied - what's next? ⌄
You will receive a decision email about 1 week after the deadline for your round. If accepted, confirm your spot before the stated deadline.
Do you accept waitlists or walk-ins? ⌄
No waitlists or walk-in admission. Only confirmed hackers with a hacker badge and photo ID may attend.
Do you offer travel reimbursements or hotel accommodations? ⌄
No. Berkeley is accessible via BART, CalTrain, and nearby airports including SFO and OAK.
In-Person Logistics
Where is the event? ⌄
The AI Hackathon will be at the Martin Luther King Jr. Building at UC Berkeley.
What should I bring? ⌄
Laptop, charger, government-issued physical photo ID with DOB, and anything else you need to build and stay for the weekend.
Do I have to be in-person? ⌄
Yes, this is an in-person only event. Hackers must be physically present in the venue to participate in judging.
Will food be provided? ⌄
Yes, all meals, snacks, and caffeine will be provided.
Will there be overnight accommodations? ⌄
No formal sleeping areas, but quiet rest spaces will be available.
Will hardware be provided? ⌄
Yes, the event will run a Hardware Rental Booth with Arduinos, Raspberry Pis, and other microcontroller components.
Do I have to stay for the entire duration? ⌄
No, registered hackers can enter and exit the venue throughout the event and overnight.
When does the event start and end? ⌄
Opening ceremony begins Saturday, June 20 around 10 am. Closing ceremony ends Sunday, June 21 around 6 pm. Final times are tentative.
